Contemporary / Lyrical (Advanced) NC
Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of Modern, Jazz, Lyrical and Classical Ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. The dancers will learn the different styles of Contemporary technique from the works of Cunningham and Graham. Techniques include contraction and release, fall and rebound, use of breath and gravity and successive or initiated movement.
In addition to Contemporary, Lyrical routines will be taught so the students have an understanding of the two different styles. Lyrical dance is flowing movements that purely express the emotion of the music. The students use their ballet and modern technique.
